The US Department of Defense has awarded Boeing a $38.7-million contract to upgrade mission software for South Korea’s P-8A Poseidon fleet, enhancing the aircraft’s maritime surveillance and combat capabilities. The program introduces the Tactical Open Mission Software (TOMS) version 105K, which improves system performance and resolves obsolescence issues affecting legacy components. A key feature of the upgrade is the integration of Multi-Static Active Coherent processing, significantly improving the aircraft’s ability to detect and track submarines. The update also enables compatibility with the Harpoon II missile, expanding the aircraft’s anti-ship and land-attack capabilities. Work will be carried out across multiple US locations and in South Korea, with completion expected by 2029. The upgrade reflects Boeing’s continued role in supporting allied maritime patrol capabilities through modular, open-architecture systems that allow rapid future enhancements.
