Rheinmetall Landsysteme will supply 14 additional Leopard 2 A4 main battle tanks (MBTs) to the Czech Republic by the end of 2026, under a CZK 4 billion (approximately EUR 160 million) contract announced by the Czech Ministry of Defence on December 3, 2024. The agreement includes overhauling and partially upgrading the tanks to meet Czech operational standards, potentially incorporating vehicles from the Swiss Army’s inventory, which the Czech Republic had shown interest in during 2023. Rheinmetall had previously been selected to procure 25 Swiss MBTs, which were delivered in early 2024. This acquisition supports the Czech Republic’s broader initiative to replace its aging Russian-made tanks with Leopard 2 A4s, financed by the German government. Since 2023, deliveries have included 28 Leopard 2 A4s and two Büffel 3 armored recovery vehicles, with roughly half already received. With the new order, the Czech Leopard 2 A4 fleet is expected to grow to 42 units by 2026.
