Airbus has unveiled a significant improvement to its A400M military transport plane, including intentions to redesign the platform to accommodate the Multi-Domain Combat Cloud (MDCC) and the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).
The platform is designed to act as a high-bandwidth communications center, connecting manned and unmanned systems in the air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains.
It is also anticipated that it will be able to launch precision-guided weapons, support electronic warfare, and deploy Remote Carriers, a novel kind of unmanned system that the A400M can carry close to the battlefield and operate in the air as necessary.
