For the army’s ground telecommunications expansion initiative, Germany has granted General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) a contract to supply Piranha V armored fighting vehicles. The “three-digit-million range” contract calls for 256 platforms, each of which will be equipped with a 15-meter (49-foot) Tactical Wide Area Network telescopic tower to serve as the force’s future connection point for mobile communications and directional radio management. By building a site in Neubrandenburg, GDELS will be able to provide logistical, technical, and maintenance support for the fleet. The initial tranche will include 58 vehicles that will be delivered in 2026.
