President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is reportedly closing in on a plan to obtain up to 24 pre-owned Eurofighter Typhoons from Qatar, even as Türkiye continues talks for new-build aircraft and Meteor missiles. The United Kingdom is mediating the Gulf transfer, which centers on Tranche 3A jets, while parallel discussions explore 16 additional Tranche 4 fighters. Years of German opposition to direct sales had stalled progress, but Berlin’s recent shift has opened the door to accelerated deliveries via Qatar or possibly Oman.

The Qatari Typhoons, among the latest models built from 2022 onward, feature advanced defensive and targeting systems such as Praetorian EW and PIRATE IRST. Oman’s Tranche 3 fleet, introduced in 2019, could also supplement the transfer pending partner-nation consent. For Türkiye, the deal offers a near-term boost to its fighter inventory amid tightening production schedules and delayed F-16 Block 70 timelines.
