Finnish tech company Varjo has launched its XR-4 Series of mixed reality headsets aimed at defense and security training. The lineup includes XR-4 Secure Edition and XR-4 Focal Edition, designed for immersive simulation across air, land, and sea operations. The headsets feature improved sensors, autofocus passthrough cameras, low-light performance for night operations, and reinforced construction suitable for field use. Certain editions are certified for secure or radio-silent environments. Compatible with existing defense simulators, the XR-4 enables realistic integration of physical and virtual training environments. Global military adoption of mixed and extended reality technologies is increasing, with the US Army using Varjo XR-3 for helicopter crew training under the Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer program. In Europe, MR systems are integrated into flight and ground vehicle instruction, including the Finnish Air Force’s Live-Virtual-Constructive framework and Czech simulators for Ukrainian F-16 training.
