Haiti has officially received its first seven Senator Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, marking the initial phase of a 17-vehicle acquisition program aimed at bolstering the country’s ground defense and internal security capabilities. The new armored vehicles, supplied by Canadian defense manufacturer Roshel, are expected to play a vital role in strengthening the Haitian Armed Forces’ (FAd’H) capacity to counter organized crime and support humanitarian operations. The delivery represents a strategic move by Haiti to reinforce its forces amid rising threats from armed gangs and criminal groups that have destabilized key urban areas. The MRAPs will be deployed for patrols, convoy escorts, area security, and counter-ambush missions, providing enhanced protection for personnel operating in high-risk zones. They will also support humanitarian and stabilization operations, ensuring troop mobility and safety during aid distribution in volatile environments. Designed and produced by Roshel Smart Armored Vehicles, the Senator MRAP combines modular protection, mobility, and reliability in a cost-effective platform. Built on the Ford F-550 chassis, the 4×4 vehicle features NATO-compliant armor, capable of withstanding 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds, artillery shell fragments, and mine explosions. Its V-shaped hull effectively deflects blast energy away from the cabin, improving crew survivability during improvised explosive device (IED) attacks. Measuring six meters in length, the Senator MRAP accommodates up to 10 personnel and carries a payload of two tons. Powered by a 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine generating 330 horsepower, the vehicle achieves speeds of up to 120 km/h with an operational range of 800 km, offering both tactical mobility and endurance. The MRAP fleet forms part of Haiti’s wider effort to rebuild its defense forces after years of limited capacity and to restore public order in gang-controlled regions. The acquisition also aligns with international support initiatives to stabilize the country’s security situation. As the remaining 10 vehicles are delivered, the Senator fleet is expected to improve Haiti’s ability to protect convoys, secure critical infrastructure, and conduct rapid-response missions, representing a major upgrade in the country’s defensive posture.
