Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s premier aerospace and defense manufacturer, has initiated a critical step to enhance the survivability and combat effectiveness of its Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) fleet. HAL has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the co-development of an advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) suite, with the project spearheaded by its Strategic Electronics Research & Design Centre (SLRDC) in Hyderabad.
This move marks a significant advancement in India’s pursuit of self-reliant defense capabilities. The LCH, designed and developed by HAL, is engineered for high-altitude warfare and can operate effectively across a range of challenging environments—from mountainous borders to low-altitude tactical zones. Equipped with air-to-air missiles, anti-tank guided missiles, and rockets, the LCH is tailored for versatile combat roles.
As modern warfare evolves, integrating a robust EW system has become essential for mission success and platform survivability, underscoring the importance of HAL’s latest initiative in strengthening India’s indigenous defense ecosystem.
