Indian Ministry of Defence has procured the Tunguska air defense system from Rosoboronexport to enhance protection against low-flying threats such as drones and cruise missiles. The system combines surface-to-air missiles with twin 30mm cannons, providing a layered defense capability. With an engagement range of up to 10 kilometers and radar detection up to 18 kilometers, it is designed to counter fast-moving and low-altitude targets. The system’s mobility allows it to accompany armored units, offering protection in dynamic battlefield environments. It is expected to complement long-range systems like the S-400 air defense system, creating a comprehensive air defense network. The procurement reflects India’s focus on addressing emerging threats such as drone swarms and loitering munitions.
