To improve its airspace protection capabilities, Italy has formally chosen Germany’s Skynex air defense system. The manufacturer, Rheinmetall, announced that a 73-million-euro ($75 million) order had been made for a single Skynex system, which would act as a “pilot” platform for the Italian Army. The system comprises four 35mm firing units, a command and control station, and a high-performance sensor and tracking unit for aerial surveillance. The bundle includes maintenance services, training assistance, spare parts, and ammo.
