Three Lightning II F-35s were delivered to the Ishikawa prefecture’s Komatsu Air Base in Japan by the United States. The F-35 aircraft are equipped with the new TR-3 avionics hardware, which includes a new display, core processor, and memory modules to increase processing speed. Their integration into the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) was prepared for by interoperability exercises conducted last year with the US and Italy, during which Tokyo sent the Izumo-class destroyer JS Kaga (DDH-184) to the western coast of the US for more training.
