The NATO Support and Procurement Agency has placed an initial order worth €200 million for 120mm tank ammunition from Rheinmetall under a 2025 framework agreement. The procurement will replenish stocks used by alliance main battle tanks, including the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams. The Basic Contractual Instrument establishes standardized terms and technical specifications, allowing participating nations to streamline purchases. Rheinmetall produces a full range of 120mm rounds, including armor-piercing sabot, high-explosive multi-purpose, and training variants, supporting NATO’s long-standing smoothbore gun standard.
