On 11 December 2024, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence signed a contract in Riyadh with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia for the acquisition of three additional Avante 2200 corvettes, complementing the five already in service with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. Construction of the first vessel will commence shortly, with the final delivery scheduled for 2028. While the first corvette will be built in Spain, the second and third units will be constructed in Saudi Arabia, where the Hazem combat system will be integrated and tested by SAMINavantia—the joint venture between Saudi Arabian Military Industries and Navantia.
