The US Army is spending $107.8 million on state-of-the-art protection systems for its tracked vehicles, enhancing the fleet’s survivability through cutting-edge technologies.
The US Department of Defense’s fiscal 2026 budget projection included this initiative under the category of Weapons and Tracked Combat Vehicles.
Top-attack protection kits, a signature management technology, and modular laser-enabled active protection systems are the three packages it includes for the ground platforms. It stated that the program would strengthen early warning against enemy threats, lower the likelihood of thermal detection, and offer passive additional armor to protect rooms and hatches from aerial attacks.
According to several sources, the packages described in 2024 and 2025 did not receive any funding, indicating that the goal of the initiative is to prepare for the changing capabilities of the adversary in contemporary warfare.
