Canada and Portugal have entered into a modernization agreement for five P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft used by the Portuguese Air Force. The 39-million-dollar project will be overseen by the Canadian Commercial Corporation and executed by General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada. The upgrades will enhance the aircraft’s operational capabilities and extend its service life, enabling Portugal to continue contributing to NATO maritime security missions. Known for its versatility, the P-3C Orion performs surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, and reconnaissance duties over large ocean areas. The agreement also supports employment opportunities in Canada’s defense and aerospace sectors while strengthening bilateral defense relations.
