Amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Poland has strengthened its position on NATO’s eastern front by signing a nearly $2 billion air defense agreement with the United States. The agreement guarantees operational readiness against aerial threats like tactical ballistic missiles and aircraft by providing logistical assistance, equipment, and training for the Raytheon-developed Patriot air defense system. As part of its larger multi-layered air defense plan, the Wisła program’s initial phase saw Warsaw purchase two Patriot batteries. The Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) and PAC-3 MSE missiles are included with these batteries.
