Lockheed Martin has formalized a cooperation deal with AED Cluster Portugal to assess the potential for Portuguese industry to support the F-35 fighter jet program. This engagement proceeds despite Lisbon’s current decision not to acquire the aircraft.
Through this framework, AED will identify local defense and aerospace companies capable of manufacturing subsystems, supplying advanced materials, or offering sustainment solutions for the F-35. The arrangement includes support for future workforce training and certification requirements.
By establishing a foundation for industrial collaboration, the deal allows Portugal to gain economic and strategic benefits tied to the F-35, while keeping the door open for possible aircraft acquisition in the future.
