Romania, a NATO member, has signed an agreement with Washington to acquire 32 F-35 fighter jets, marking an unprecedented expenditure for the country bordering Ukraine. This purchase, estimated at $6.5 billion and approved by the Romanian parliament, represents the most expensive military acquisition for the Eastern European nation. Romania is the latest country to procure these combat jets, with the deal coming more than two and a half years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an event that has significantly increased Romania’s strategic importance.
