To improve their capacity for reconnaissance, raids, and strike operations in the Arctic, the Royal Marines Commandos have acquired 159 new snowmobiles. The Lynx Brutal Over Snow Reconnaissance Vehicles have been given to the UK Commando Force, the brigade-sized operational arm of the Royal Marines. Previously, snowmobiles were used by specialized teams of the UK Commando Force. However, changes in battlefield strategies now necessitate the deployment of smaller teams over a larger area, necessitating increased mobility.
