Airbus has completed the first delivery of its NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopters to the Spanish Navy, providing two aircraft designed for amphibious and naval tactical operations. This is the beginning of a seven-helicopter order that is part of a wider 23-unit program, representing phase two of Spain’s NH90 acquisition.
The MSPT configuration includes critical enhancements for maritime use—naval navigation systems, reinforced gear, and automatic rotor folding—enabling easier storage aboard ships. It can carry a full combat unit or a vehicle and operate with just one pilot in demanding weather or night-time scenarios. With these new additions, the NH90 becomes operational across Spain’s Navy, Army, and Air and Space Force. This development stems from a national-level strategy, as outlined in the agreement signed in May with Airbus under the National Helicopter Plan.
