Embraer and Valkyrie Aero are working together to enhance the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with advanced technology designed to improve its ability to counter hostile drones. The upgrade centers on the integration of Valkyrie Aero’s Gunslinger system, which introduces advanced tactical decision-making tools to support the “Find, Fix, Finish” operational cycle used in targeting aerial threats. The new suite is designed to process sensor information in real time and assist pilots in detecting, tracking, and engaging unmanned aerial threats more effectively. By improving the aircraft’s decision-support capabilities, the upgrade transforms the A-29 into a more capable counter-drone platform. The Gunslinger system enhances the performance of the aircraft’s existing sensors rather than replacing them, allowing operators to gain improved situational awareness and faster reaction times. The upgrade is also designed as a scalable solution, meaning the technology can adapt as drone threats evolve. Defense analysts note that the growing use of small unmanned aircraft in modern conflicts has increased the need for affordable counter-drone solutions. Integrating advanced software and decision-support tools into existing aircraft like the A-29 offers a cost-effective approach to addressing emerging aerial threats.
