The Tokyo Fire Department has selected Airbus Helicopters’ H225 to enhance its aerial response capabilities, awarding a contract for the aircraft following a competitive tender. The new H225 will replace an aging helicopter in the fleet as part of a broader modernization initiative aimed at bolstering mission readiness. Designed for high-performance operations, the H225 will support a wide range of critical functions including search and rescue, aerial firefighting, emergency medical response, and disaster relief. It features a dedicated search and rescue mode for rapid target acquisition, onboard medical stretchers for immediate care, and a belly-mounted water tank to enable quick firefighting deployments. This addition reflects Japan’s broader reliance on the H225 platform, with 24 units already in service across the Ministry of Defence and various public agencies, supporting missions such as VIP transport, logistics, and emergency response.
