The U.S. Army has ordered nine CH-47F Block II Chinook helicopters from Boeing under contracts totaling $461 million, as part of efforts to modernize heavy-lift operations. Covering production Lots 4 and 5, the order brings the Block II fleet to 18 aircraft, with potential for Lot 6. Six Block II Chinooks have already been delivered and are undergoing testing. Upgrades include reinforced structures, redesigned fuel systems, and improved engines and drive components, increasing maximum takeoff weight by 4,000 pounds and extending range. The CH-47F measures 30 meters, accommodates up to 55 troops or 24,000 pounds of cargo, and is powered by twin Honeywell T55-GA-714A engines producing 4,700 horsepower each. Flight range is 1,200 nautical miles, with a speed of 170 knots. Boeing has also received more than 50 MH-47G orders for U.S. Special Operations Command.
