The US Navy recently accepted its 350th MH‑60R Seahawk from Lockheed Martin’s Owego plant and assigned it to HSM-41, the squadron responsible for training Pacific Fleet aviators and crew on the platform.
The MH-60R, introduced in 2006, serves as the Navy’s primary helicopter for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare and features advanced open-architecture avionics, electronic support measures, sensors, data links, and weapons including AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and MK 54 torpedoes.
In recent operations, the Seahawk supported maritime security missions in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, engaging drones and Houthi-armed skiffs.
Produced by Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky division, the MH-60R is expected to operate through the 2050s. It is also operated or ordered by allied countries such as Australia, India, Greece, and Spain.
