The US State Department has cleared a possible $3.42-billion foreign military sale to Peru, covering 12 F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and extensive support. Lima’s request includes 10 F-16C Block 70s and two F-16D Block 70s, aimed at boosting sovereignty protection, border defense, and counter-narcotics missions. The package comprises AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, AIM-9X Block II Sidewinders, M61A1 guns, 14 F110-GE-129 engines, AESA radars, modular computers, advanced avionics, and night-vision equipment. Contractors include Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, and RTX. The deal strengthens US-Peru defense ties and enhances Lima’s deterrence capabilities.
