The US State Department has cleared a possible $318.4-million sale of AIM-9X Block II missiles to Denmark, including up to 340 live missiles and 34 guidance units. The package also features training aids, software, spare parts, and logistics support. Denmark already deploys the AIM-9X on its F-35A fighters and ground-based air defense launchers, meaning it can easily integrate the additional systems. RTX will act as the primary contractor, with no offset arrangements currently planned. The AIM-9X Block II represents the most advanced version of the Sidewinder family, using an imaging infrared seeker, thrust-vectoring controls, and updated electronics. It supports high-maneuver engagements, lock-on-after-launch capability, and limited beyond-visual-range performance through its new datalink. With a range of about 32 kilometers and speeds exceeding Mach 2.5, it can be mounted on multiple Western aircraft, including F-15s, F-16s, F/A-18s, EA-18Gs, F-22s, and the entire F-35 series.
