The US Air Force has chosen Shield AI to provide mission autonomy software for a Collaborative Combat Aircraft prototype. Shield AI’s Hivemind system will power Anduril Industries’ YFQ-44A Fury drone, competing against General Atomics Aeronautical Systems’ YFQ-42A. Designed as an AI-driven digital pilot, Hivemind enables autonomous navigation, threat response, and mission execution without direct human control. The system has been integrated into multiple platforms and supports the USAF’s goal of fielding “loyal wingman” aircraft capable of flying alongside crewed fighters.
