Huntington Ingalls Industries has doubled the size of its unmanned underwater vehicle facility in Portchester, UK, expanding its ability to support operators of the REMUS family of underwater drones. The site will act as a regional hub for the Royal Navy, US combatant commands, and European partners, providing training, integration, sustainment, and logistics support. The facility will also support the rollout of HII’s ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels later this year. REMUS vehicles, ranging from the compact REMUS 130 to the deep-diving REMUS 6000, are used for mine countermeasures, intelligence collection, and environmental monitoring. ROMULUS USVs will employ AI-driven autonomy to conduct long-range, coordinated maritime operations, reinforcing allied unmanned maritime capabilities.
