German defense firm Rheinmetall has signed an agreement to acquire a 51 percent stake in Croatian unmanned ground vehicle manufacturer DOK-ING, expanding its portfolio in autonomous land systems. The deal was formalized by Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Europe CEO Dr. Björn Bernhard and DOK-ING founder Vjekoslav Majetić in the presence of Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić. Majetić will retain a 49 percent stake, while the company will continue operating from its Zagreb headquarters with its existing leadership structure intact. Although financial details were not disclosed, the transaction remains subject to regulatory approval. The partnership is expected to focus on the development of advanced robotic platforms for military operations, including reconnaissance, mine clearance, mine laying, and fire support. One of the key initiatives following the acquisition will be the development of the “Wingman” armed unmanned ground vehicle designed to operate alongside tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. The project will build upon DOK-ING’s Komodo modular hybrid UGV platform, which can carry payloads exceeding 8.5 tonnes. Rheinmetall will contribute advanced mission modules such as direct- and indirect-fire systems, autonomous navigation capabilities, and logistics support solutions. In addition, the German defense company intends to establish a competence center for autonomous tactical systems in Croatia, strengthening regional expertise and innovation in robotic military technologies.
