The Indian Navy and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited are advancing the Navy Combat Air Teaming System (N-CATS), a carrier-capable Loyal Wingman unmanned combat aerial vehicle intended to operate alongside naval fighter aircraft. Unlike the existing CATS Warrior, the naval variant appears to feature a larger stealth-oriented airframe, folding wings for carrier storage, increased payload capacity of around one tonne, and twin air intakes that suggest greater thrust and endurance. Designed for carrier operations, the UCAV will require specialized structural reinforcements, advanced autonomous flight systems, and maritime-resistant components. The platform is expected to support missions including reconnaissance, electronic warfare, strike operations, and target designation while working alongside aircraft such as the MiG-29K and future Rafale M fighters. The program highlights India’s growing commitment to integrating autonomous systems into carrier air wings and expanding indigenous unmanned combat capabilities.
