Saab has announced a strategic partnership with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) to jointly develop an Unmanned Airborne Early Warning (UAEW) solution. The new system will be based on GA-ASI’s MQ-9B unmanned aerial platform.
This collaboration will combine Saab’s extensive expertise in Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) systems with GA-ASI’s leadership in unmanned aircraft technologies. The partnership will see Saab’s AEW sensors integrated onto the MQ-9B, delivering persistent surveillance and real-time situational awareness across extended operational areas.
Designed to complement Saab’s existing manned AEW&C solutions like GlobalEye, this unmanned medium-range system will offer additional flexibility, including deployment from naval vessels. It can operate either independently or in coordination with manned platforms, enhancing mission effectiveness through manned-unmanned teaming.
Saab’s long-standing experience in providing AEW solutions to NATO and international defense partners further strengthens the credibility and potential of this new offering.
