The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has acquired eight V-BAT vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones to bolster maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities for the Royal Netherlands Navy and Marine Corps.

This acquisition, part of a broader defense modernization effort, was heavily influenced by the V-BAT’s proven performance in the Ukraine conflict, according to its manufacturer, Shield AI.

The V-BAT system delivers long-endurance ISR and precision targeting without relying on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), offering resistance to electronic jamming. The platform was also tested aboard the HNLMS Johan de Witt during NATO’s REPMUS 2024 exercise.
