Indian technology companies ArcanumSpace and Quetzalcoatl have developed ARC ODIN, a hybrid unmanned platform designed to operate both on the ground and in the air. The system is intended to address situations where conventional ground robots may be unable to continue because of terrain or physical obstacles.ARC ODIN can function as an unmanned ground vehicle before transitioning into an aerial platform when required. This dual-mode architecture gives the system an additional method of overcoming barriers that would otherwise stop a ground-based robot.The concept is focused on improving battlefield awareness and providing soldiers with access to areas that may be difficult to observe directly. When ground movement is restricted, the aerial capability can potentially provide an elevated view of the surrounding environment.This could also support beyond-line-of-sight observation. Operators may be able to gather information from locations that are hidden by terrain, buildings, or other physical barriers without moving personnel into potentially dangerous areas.The hybrid design differentiates ARC ODIN from conventional unmanned ground or aerial vehicles, which normally specialize in a single operating environment.
