Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has unveiled a new underwater drone system aimed at protecting critical seabed infrastructure and enhancing the security of ports and coastal regions.
Named DEEP, the system is described as Fincantieri’s first integrated underwater drone solution, capable of supporting both civil and defense applications — from deep-sea reconnaissance to environmental monitoring.
DEEP comprises an underwater early-warning network equipped with sensors, a centralized command-and-control hub for real-time data exchange, and a fleet of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
