Germany’s Rheinmetall has partnered with Italian defense authorities to upgrade existing MATS anti-tank mines to a more advanced MK2 standard. The program focuses on improving safety features and extending the service life of the munitions through modernization efforts. Rheinmetall’s Italian subsidiary will oversee design and production activities at domestic facilities. The upgrade initiative reflects efforts to maintain effective ground defense capabilities while meeting modern safety requirements. Scheduled to commence soon, the program is also expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen Italy’s defense industrial base.
