The US Marine Corps has awarded electronic warfare company Epirus an $11 million contract to deliver a vehicle-mounted high-power microwave system designed to counter groups of drones. Known as the High-power Microwave Autonomous Vehicle Operational Capability, or HAVOC, the system is based on Epirus’ Leonidas technology. HAVOC uses a universal sled mount that allows it to be integrated with both manned and unmanned Marine Corps ground vehicles. The system builds on the Expeditionary Directed Energy Counter-Swarm capability delivered to the Marines in 2025 and is intended to provide a more powerful and autonomous counter-drone solution. At the heart of Leonidas are solid-state high-power microwave components and gallium nitride amplifiers that generate electromagnetic energy capable of engaging multiple unmanned aerial systems. Compared with the earlier ExDECS system, HAVOC is expected to provide greater power, range, ruggedness, and autonomous operation. The system will complement existing low-altitude air-defense capabilities and protect forward assets such as radars, communications equipment, refueling sites, and power systems. The contract also covers training and sustainment support.
