Belgian manufacturer FN Herstal has introduced its EVOLYS ultralight machine gun in the UK, offering models chambered in 5.56mm and 7.62mm NATO calibers. Designed to merge the power of belt-fed weapons with the agility of assault rifles, EVOLYS enhances soldier endurance while providing sustained suppressive fire. The 5.56mm version weighs just 5.5 kilograms, one-third lighter than the Minimi, making it well-suited for close- to medium-range combat in urban and complex terrain. The 7.62mm version, at just over 6.2 kilograms, balances long-range firepower with maneuverability, solving the decades-long challenge of heavy squad weapons. Both versions integrate ambidextrous controls, folding stocks, suppressor-ready systems, and quick-change barrels, enhancing versatility for modern missions.
