At the APEC 2025 forum in Gyeongju, South Korea, Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) formalized a strategic partnership to expand US shipbuilding capabilities.
The agreement focuses on shared engineering, automation, and R&D initiatives, alongside distributed production and joint investments.
Together, the firms will pursue US Navy auxiliary ship contracts, leveraging HII’s naval expertise and HHI’s experience in commercial shipbuilding.
Their cooperation extends to advanced technologies such as robotics and AI applications in shipyard operations, as well as lifecycle support for US Navy ships across the Indo-Pacific region.
The latest accord follows earlier joint work on the Next-Generation Logistics Ship (NGLS) concept and an April MOU to exchange shipbuilding practices aimed at reducing costs and timelines. HHI also recently proposed building Aegis destroyers for US service.
