Romania is advancing plans to procure two light corvettes based on the MMPV 90 design from Rheinmetall subsidiary Naval Vessels Lürssen. Construction will take place in Mangalia as part of Romania’s naval modernization strategy backed by the European SAFE defense program. The vessels will feature advanced combat systems, anti-submarine warfare sensors, and air defense weapons, while also supporting helicopter and unmanned aerial system operations. The project aims to strengthen Romania’s maritime security capabilities in the Black Sea region.
