Spain’s Navantia and Germany’s thyssenkrupp Marine Systems have signed an MoU to explore joint shipbuilding opportunities tied to submarine programs in Europe, NATO, and export markets. The partnership seeks faster delivery, lower costs, and improved industrial efficiency. Future work would combine TKMS submarine technology with production at Navantia facilities in Spain. Both firms said stronger cooperation is needed as demand rises for advanced naval platforms. Navantia is currently building up to six S-80 Isaac Peral-class submarines for Spain, while TKMS is producing as many as 15 boats for Germany and Norway. In 2025, TKMS was also shortlisted for Canada’s submarine replacement, won India’s six-submarine program, and teamed with Fincantieri for a Philippine Navy offer.
