Navantia has proposed its ALFA 4000 frigate design to Sweden for the Luleå program, offering a low-risk and rapidly deployable solution for the country’s next-generation naval fleet. The proposal includes delivery of four vessels, with two expected by 2030 and the remaining two by 2031. The ALFA 4000 is designed for multi-role operations, including air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and surface combat. Measuring 120 meters in length, the vessel features advanced weapons systems, sonar integration, and a networked combat management system. It also supports helicopter operations and accommodates around 100 personnel. Navantia emphasized its willingness to collaborate with Swedish industry partners, building on previous cooperation with Saab. The offer aligns with Sweden’s efforts to modernize its navy and strengthen its defense posture amid evolving regional security challenges.
