South Korea Expands Defense Innovation Program for Emerging Military Technology FirmsThe South Korean government has launched a new round of its “Challenge for All – Defense” initiative, inviting approximately 50 startups and small technology companies to develop innovative solutions for future military applications. Managed by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the program promotes collaboration between emerging businesses, established defense companies, and military organizations to accelerate the transition of new technologies from development to operational use. Selected firms will receive financial support of up to 100 million won for prototype development and proof-of-concept activities, while high-performing projects may qualify for follow-on research and commercialization funding worth as much as 600 million won. Participants will undergo document screening, direct engagement with defense stakeholders, and evaluation of proposed collaboration plans before final selection. The initiative builds on the successful first phase launched earlier this year and is designed to help startups validate their technologies in realistic military environments. By strengthening cooperation between industry and the armed forces, South Korea aims to accelerate defense innovation, enhance the competitiveness of its technology sector, and support the development of next-generation military capabilities in response to increasing global investment in defense technologies.
