The commissioning of INS Malvan represents another important milestone in the Indian Navy’s ongoing modernization of its coastal defense fleet. As the second vessel in the Mahe-class series, the ship has been purpose-built to detect and engage submarines operating in shallow coastal waters where conventional warships often face operational limitations. Equipped with sophisticated sonar equipment, precision anti-submarine weapons, and advanced surveillance systems, INS Malvan will enhance maritime domain awareness while safeguarding critical ports, shipping lanes, and coastal assets. Built largely with indigenous technologies, the vessel also demonstrates India’s continued commitment to strengthening self-reliance in defense manufacturing while expanding the Navy’s ability to respond rapidly to emerging underwater security threats.
