DRDO’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment is developing an advanced indigenous fighter engine that will initially generate approximately 110 kN of thrust for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). The engine has been designed with a scalable core architecture, enabling future variants capable of producing substantially higher thrust for heavier sixth-generation combat aircraft. The modular approach supports long-term modernization while reducing dependence on foreign propulsion technologies. Besides delivering supercruise performance and compatibility with stealth aircraft, the engine program also strengthens India’s domestic expertise in turbine technology, advanced materials, thermal management, and next-generation aerospace engineering for future military aviation programs.
