India is significantly strengthening its airborne surveillance network through the development of the Netra MkII Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system. Built on modified Airbus A321 aircraft, the platform offers substantially greater electrical power, mission endurance, payload capacity, and operational flexibility than the earlier Embraer-based Netra MkI. The aircraft will integrate next-generation indigenous AESA radar, advanced electronic intelligence equipment, electronic warfare systems, secure communications, and multiple mission operator consoles. Once operational, Netra MkII will function as an airborne command center capable of long-range airspace monitoring, threat identification, sensor fusion, and battle management while seamlessly connecting with India’s Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS). The project represents one of the country’s most important steps toward achieving a fully indigenous strategic surveillance capability.
