Europe is significantly expanding its indigenous long-range strike production capability through a strategic partnership between Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall to establish localized manufacturing of the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS). The German-based production facility will perform missile assembly, integration, testing, and lifecycle support while supplying NATO members with precision-guided ballistic missiles compatible with HIMARS and M270 launch systems. Beyond ATACMS production, the facility will manufacture Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System rockets, Hellfire missiles, Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles, and Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, creating one of Europe’s largest integrated precision-weapons production centers. The initiative enhances strategic supply chain resilience, strengthens NATO’s industrial capacity, reduces dependence on overseas production, and ensures sustained support for future alliance long-range fires requirements.
