The Astra MkII missile program represents a significant enhancement in India’s indigenous air-to-air missile development. Featuring improved propulsion, greater engagement range, enhanced terminal maneuverability, and advanced seeker technology, the missile is intended to equip multiple frontline fighter aircraft with a modern beyond-visual-range weapon. Integration across the Su-30MKI, Tejas, Rafale, and future combat aircraft will strengthen long-range aerial combat capability while reducing dependence on imported missile systems. The modular development approach also allows future range improvements and technology upgrades without major changes to the production infrastructure.
