Astra Microwave Products Limited has reached a crucial stage in its indigenous radar development programme by transferring an advanced naval radar system to DRDO for final qualification activities. The handover, announced during the company’s FY26 financial discussion on May 27, 2026, represents the completion of a major development milestone for the Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU)-based radar architecture. Designed for both naval and ground-based applications, the system incorporates advanced electronically scanned array technology aimed at improving detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities against multiple threat categories. The radar is expected to strengthen future Indian Navy platforms by providing enhanced maritime surveillance, improved air defence coordination, and advanced fire-control support. Following the delivery, the system will undergo detailed evaluation, integration checks, and operational validation before possible induction into service. The achievement highlights Astra Microwave’s expanding capabilities in developing high-performance defence electronics and reinforces its role as a key indigenous partner supporting DRDO-led defence programmes.
