Kopin has received a $21.5-million follow-on contract to manufacture thermal imaging assemblies for a portable US military weapon platform designed for battlefield operations in demanding environments. The Massachusetts-based company will supply custom eyepiece assemblies using its proprietary microdisplays, optics, ruggedized housings, and drive electronics for an unnamed defense contractor. The thermal imaging modules are intended to improve target detection and identification capabilities during both daytime and nighttime combat operations. Kopin stated that the contract strengthens domestic US supply chains for mission-critical vision technologies while reducing reliance on foreign-made components.
