Australia has conducted a live-fire demonstration of its developmental Medium-Range Ground-Based Air Defense system, testing the integration of its major components during an operational engagement. The demonstration took place during Exercise Taipan Strike 26 at the Woomera Test Range and was led by Lockheed Martin in cooperation with the US Navy. During the test, a radar developed by CEA Technologies detected and tracked a representative aerial threat before transmitting the target information to an expeditionary version of the virtualized Aegis Weapon System. The demonstration was intended to validate how the system’s sensors, combat management architecture and engagement components work together under realistic conditions. The test represents an important step in Australia’s efforts to develop a modern ground-based air-defense capability capable of responding to emerging aerial threats. By integrating Australian-developed radar technology with the Aegis architecture, the program also demonstrates the potential for closer interoperability between Australian and US defense systems. Further testing will be important as Canberra continues developing the capability toward future operational deployment.
